Mask 2: Turmeric Yogurt Brightening Mask (Glow Getter)

Budget beauty guidance · Updated November 28, 2025

Ingredients: 2 tablespoons plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon honey (optional), 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon gram flour (optional, to thicken).

Cost estimate: ~$2 (turmeric is inexpensive per use).

Benefits: Turmeric is the golden spice known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant powers. It’s been used in Indian bridal beauty rituals for centuries to brighten and even skin tone. This mask can impart a radiant glow and help calm acne-prone skin (turmeric’s antimicrobial properties can inhibit acne bacteria).

Yogurt’s lactic acid further helps to gently exfoliate and brighten. Honey (if used) adds moisture and acts as a natural preservative for the mix.

Instructions: Mix yogurt, turmeric, and honey (if using) in a bowl. Add a teaspoon of gram flour or all- purpose flour if the mixture is too runny (this traditional addition helps the mask stay on the face). Apply a thin layer evenly over your face – be careful around the hairline and eyebrows, as turmeric can stain light hairs temporarily. Leave on for about 10 minutes. Rinse off thoroughly with warm water. You may notice a slight yellow tinge on very fair skin; a gentle toner or second cleanse will remove it (don’t worry, it’s not permanent). Use this mask no more than once a week. Glow tip: Many people find that with regular use, this mask can brighten up dull, tired-looking skin and even help with acne scars or hyperpigmentation, thanks to turmeric’s skin-tone evening properties.

(A note on turmeric: it can stain fabric, so use an old towel to dry your face and wear an old T-shirt when applying.)
